Cross-posting from LiveJournal, 11 August 2014: Arrival

We had a safe and uneventful journey, arriving at JFK an hour and a half early - which meant hat getting through passport control was much quicker than it would have been otherwise. Everything continued smoothly - we had no trouble on the shuttle to the rental car in Baltimore, all the suitcases except one fitted in the boot, and the remaining one travelled as a passenger (like we did coming up to Omer, only the children were less crowded), and our landlady and her children greeted us very warmly (the kids quickly went off and played together, while she walked us through the house).

The house is on two levels, with a finished basement that includes another kitchen (now we also have an extra fridge, Mummy!). In the end each boy has his own room, as the children's rooms are relatively small. The master bedroom is enormous compared to our flat in Jerusalem, and includes a fainting couch. Walking on wooden floors is a bit noisy, but we will get used to it. The basement has wall-to-wall carpeting, and I expect that weekly vacuuming will become part of the routine.

Yesterday we shopped briefly at a Giant supermarket, for essentials like tea, milk and Rice Krispies. Today, while ADC goes to Social Security, the rest of us are going to Target, to buy household goods like more hangers, an electric kettle, and so on. Later on, we will probably walk to the centre of Takoma Park, and open a bank account.
